Your dog needs exercise. Being penned up for too long will quickly drive a dog crazy. Whatever space you're keeping your dog in, make sure that it's large enough to allow running and playing. Don't keep it locked up in the house or a kennel for too long. Also, take your dog on walks. Go to the park and play with your dog. This provides the dog with exercise, and also acts as a bonding experience between the pet and the owner.

What you feed your dog is important to your dog's health. Going to the store and buying the cheapest dog food might keep your pet alive, but it isn't the best option. Get your dog the dog food that offers the most complete diet. Also, give your dog a variety of foods. Just like humans need food from all the food groups, dogs need different types of food to stay healthy. A well fed dog will not only look healthier, it will feel healthier.

Most importantly, show your dog lots of attention. Dogs don't just need sustenance and exercise to be healthy. Dogs are very social animals, and they need companionship. Whenever you can, show your dog some attention. Pet it, play with it, do anything with it. You can be sure that will be greatly appreciated. When you go out of town, don't just leave your dog by itself. Find someone that will not only take care of your dog, but will spend a little time with it. There are even some options for pet boarding. Sort of like resorts for dogs. You can leave your pet at something like this, and it will not only be taken care of while you're away, it will be pampered.
